By day I’m half of http://www.smartimaging.biz simple business model, she designs – he prints! By night I’m a semi serious doodler. Exploring the world of illustration, enjoying the many online supportive areas, through #colour_collective on twitter and the variety of design and illustration open call competitions that keep me picking up my paintbrush or grabbing my mouse. I enjoy both analogue and digital design and find the combination of them a really powerful tool. It’s a joy to explore all that illustration has to offer and I’m so lucky to be able to incorporate it into my day job.
This space is my digital sketch book, where i keep my scribbles both analogue and digital, it’s a way of keeping track of my journey from starting illustration bootcamp in September 2016, which was the first time in many years I’d picked up a pencil, there’s a mix of all kinds of media, themes and challenges, it’s really a visual diary.
Well, I’ve officially finished illustration boot camp and loved every minute of it, participated in the group exhibition “Wonder” in Filmbase Dublin and really discovered the joy that is drawing every day. On to my next challenge a short course with Central St. Martins in London in illustration, it will be another different challenge not least to master the technicalities of online group tutorials but, I’ll keep you posted. Oh and I’ll be painting my lovely vikings on a traffic light box in July as part of the Dublin Canvas project, very proud to have been chosen.
Well the CSM course is just finished and I have to say it’s been an amazing experience, I’ve been challenged and pushed to find different processes and use different media, participate in group tutorials online (who knew I was that techy!) and engage with university style tutors who have such different expectations, brilliant experience and lets face it, anything that rewards you for making a city out of a coffee cup has got to be fun!
Summers over, Vikings are well accustomed to their new home on Ellis Quay, loved being part of dublincanvas.com and very proud of my super friendly if a little bit camp vikings that are happy chappys in their new home on the quays…the piece christened “AAARRRRGGGHHH” took a weekend of hard labour to complete from drawing it up colouring book style to doing all the painting and mixing of colours, its all done from the primary colours so fair bit of work in getting my technicolour chaps to come to life, totally worth it, had great craic, met great people and am wildly proud of them. Check me out with a little artist name check on the Dublin Canvas site https://www.dublincanvas.com/alison-watson
